1.0 million people were discharged form hospitals with stroke as a primary diagnosis in 2010.
After discharge there can still be significant healthcare needs for the
individual, sometimes requiring months to years of onoing care.
Traumatic Brain Injury
An Estimated 1.7 million traumatic brain injuries (TBI) occur each year with over 275,000 hospitalizations. An estimated 3.2 million Americans are estimated to
be living with disability related to TBI. Statistics are rising and this condition is getting more attention on account of
an increase in blast concussions within the military and chronic traumatic encephalopathy as a result of repeated
head injuries in high impact sports.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Not all injuries can be seen. Traumatic life events impact people of all ages and can change their lives forever. An estimated 24.4 million Americans have PTSD at any given time.
Whether this is a result of a direct physical injury or an emotionally traumatic event, both can impact one's ability to live life to the fullest.
